Whew....
Did a bit of blog maintenance today.

Lutherans....
Forever Your Girl from the blog How Did I Get Here has a great post up about her visit to a meeting she recently attended at the Lutheran church she is a member of.
The Lutherans recently voted to allow gay and lesbian folks to be ordained as ministers (amongst other things). She went to a local meeting of Lutherans that were upset with the national ruling and ended up being the only one at the meeting willing to speak out in favor of the new ruling. It's a very entertaining story indeed.
I asked her to inform me when this meeting was so I could check it out, but she ever so conveniently forgot to tell me.

New International Sexism
Apparently, the favorite translation of the Bible amongst evangelicals and conservatives is the "New International Version". I'm guessing the Old National Version didn't have enough gay-hatin', so they went ahead and fixed it.
Well the New International Version is getting another overhaul. The first revision since 1978. They'll be leaving in the gay hatin', but apparently trying to make it less sexist.
Not that god was sexist mind you.
No...god loved women. As long as they kept their mouth shut and obeyed their husband.....
1 Corinthians 11:3 - Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
1 Corinthians 11:7 - 9 - A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
1 Corinthians 14:34 - 35 - Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Ephesians 5:22 - 24 - Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Colossians 3:18 - Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
And seriously....I could go on and on and on.
Bottom line is that no matter how many revisions and translations they attempt to polish this turd with, it still stinks. According to the Bible (and most other religions that just so happened to have been created by men) women are second class citizens.
I'm sure all the female priests at the Vatican would disagree. Oops. That's right. Women don't have what it takes to be a Catholic priest. Whatever THAT may be.....and I'm not sure I want to know what that exactly is.
