PLAIN CITY, Utah – Police in Utah say a 7-year-old boy led officers on a car chase in an effort to avoid going to church.
Dispatchers received reports of a child driving recklessly on Sunday morning. Weber County Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson says one witness said the boy drove through a stop sign.
Anderson says two deputies caught up with the boy and tried unsuccessfully to stop the Dodge Intrepid in an area about 45 miles north of Salt Lake City. The car reached 40 mph before the boy stopped in a driveway and ran inside a home.
Anderson says when the boy's father later confronted him, the boy said he didn't want to go to church. The boy is too young to prosecute and no citations were issued, although police did urge the father to make his car keys more inaccessible to children.

Oh Canada...
I seem to be getting a semi-slew of traffic from our friends up north. Those fine folks from Canada.
Many thanks to Calvin's Canadian Cave of Coolness for the traffic and props he has thrown my humble way over the weekend. A fine blog you should all be checking out and making a daily visit to.
Makes me feel bad about this picture that I posted many moons ago.
Damn....it's still funny. Oh well, at least they can make a national health care system work, and we seem content to let insurance company bureaucrats tell us what we need and don't need. Blah.
If nothing else, I will eternally grateful to our friends in Canada for these guys....

SCIO, Ohio -- A 2-and-a-half-month-old baby was injured in a crash after police said the child's father was distracted by a live bat he was holding while steering the car.
The father, Louis Hardy, 18, had picked up the bat because he was intrigued by it, according to Sgt. Jeff Bernard of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
"The bat started to do something in the vehicle that distracted him," Bernard said.
The child, police said, was sitting in his mother's lap in the front seat of the car, unrestrained by either a seat belt or a car seat when the car crashed into a utility pole in Scio.
Ronald Wright, who lives near the crash site on Church Street, said the crash sounded like an explosion.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — An Islamic court in Malaysia has sentenced a Muslim woman to be flogged with a rattan cane for having a beer in a nightclub, a court official said Tuesday.
It is rare for a woman in Malaysia to be sentenced to caning — a punishment usually reserved for men in various crimes ranging from rape to bribery.
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno was sentenced Monday to six lashes and a fine of 5,000 ringgit ($1,400) for consuming alcohol, said a Shariah High Court official who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to make public statements.
Shukarno, a 32-year-old model, pleaded guilty in the court in eastern Pahang state to a charge of drinking beer when Islamic authorities raided a hotel nightclub in August 2008.
