I know this is a minority opinion, but my two favorite movies of his as a director are African Queen and The Misfits. Everything else he did with Bogart gets an honorable mention.

Favorite movie with him as an actor? Chinatown, of course.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre gets more than an honorable mention. It's an absoute PERFECT film in every way. One of the best adventure flicks ever made.

I also think that The Man Who Would Be King is an ofter overlooked classic as well. Can you do better than Connerey and Caine!!? I think not.

Another good movie of his that's overlooked is Fat City with Stacy Keach.

I think Eastwood did a pretty good job representing Houston too, in White Hunter Black Heart. And if you've ever seen any of Houston's war reportage from the front line in Italy, during WW2, then you appreciate where he got his director's eye.

Another thing John was great at would be appearing on talk shows. Any interviews of him are pure gold. He had a certain way about him when telling a story.....good stuff.
