Christian kids sent home from school....

Sure, these shirts are divisive, angry, and intolerant...and the kids wearing them SHOULD be sent home from school. Yet at the same time I have a very strange respect for Christians who at least know what the Bible says and aren't afraid to stick behind what it teaches.

The Bible strictly teaches that the only way to obtain salvation and get into heaven is
by accepting Jesus Christ as blah blah blah blah. To pretend that Christian theology is accepting of other belief systems is just wishy washy.

Of course, at the end of the day it is ALL absolute unfiltered bullshit. Of that we can be sure.

Yet I'm always strangely impressed by those who stick with the convictions set forth by a ancient anonymously authored text book that was written by folks who would have thought a wheelbarrow was an amazing piece of technology.

'Devil' shirts send kids home

More children from the Dove World Outreach Center arrived Tuesday at area public schools with shirts bearing the message "Islam is of the Devil" and were sent home for violation of the school district's dress code when they declined to change clothes or cover the anti-Muslim statement on their clothing.

School district staff attorney Tom Wittmer said the shirts violated a district ban on clothing that may "disrupt the learning process" or cause other students to be "offended or distracted."

"Students have a right of free speech, and we have allowed students to come to school wearing clothes with messages," Wittmer said. "But this message is a divisive message that is likely to offend students. Principals, I feel reasonably, have deemed that a violation of the dress code."

I am not going into the whole bible thing again... you know my stance on that.
Lets just sum it up that I believe it is full of flaws and the basis of my faith lays elsewhere.
But I am a little offended that you state belief Christian theology can accept other beliefs is wishy-washy.
We can evolve just like anyone else and I have. I doubt very much that you could honestly call me "wishy-washy"
A bad Christian in the traditional sense (as you have in the past) I will accept with a smile, but never wishy-washy.

The Bible is (supposedly) the "word of god". It doesn't evolve, it doesn't change, and it doesn't sway in the breeze.

You can say you believe the it was written by me and full of flaws, but to me that just removes the entire point of believing in the divinity of the fictional character of JC.

Sure, you can change YOUR beliefs and adapt them to the modern world.....MOST Christians have.

But that doesn't change the original text.

I was just stating my amazement, and strange respect, for those that stick with the silly book the way it was written.

Kind of like the Mormon Fundamentalists vs. the LDS Church. I respect the fundamentalists for sticking with the way the religion was originally laid out by Joseph Smith, and not the current watered down modern version.

I agree that the bible cannot evolve. It is a book and it says what it says. If you base your entire beleif system on that instead of using it as just one tool than you can not evolve either - but we are talking about the theology!
1 : the study of religious faith, practice, and experience; especially : the study of God and of God's relation to the world
2 a : a theological theory or system, example: a theology of atonement b : a distinctive body of theological opinion

A body of opinion or a theory can evolve and for many of us (I was I could say most) it has.

To state that one person's personal version of history has a flaw and that negates the existence of the historical figure as a whole makes no sense to me.

You aren't supposed to. That goes against the entire idea of religion. You are clearly an instigator and a rebel. The Catholics would never have you.

There is no "version of history" at debate here. There is no history or historical figure.

There is only a completely fictional book that isn't even remotely unique. There isn't a story, character, or situation described in that book that didn't exist thousands of years before it was written. It is a fable whose roots are easily traced.

A body of opinion or a theory can evolve and for many of us (I was I could say most) it has. .

Obviously, it can. But when it has, through all time, claimed to be the WORD OF GOD....well then changing and evolving those ideas negates the divine claim.

Pt1 - you are so wrong about the Catholics - my mother-in-law has been trying to recruit me for years now. Which is funny when you think, I was so offended by the last sermon that I got up half way through and took my kids to wait in the car.
And I also told her and all her uber catholic friends that there was no way that my children would EVER participate in a pro-life display.... EVER!!!
They are just hard up these days.

Pt. 2 - this is just turning into a is so / is not argument so lets drop it.

pt 3. - I think that we are saying the same thing, but just coming from different directions. It is a tool of faith - If Christ penned it himself I may have pause, but as we can all agree that didn't happen. Each book is one person's version of the word of God. The beauty of true theology is that we can study and learn from each and EVOLVE!

In the end, my whole thing is don't call me wishy-washy or I am coming over there and kicking you in the shins!

I don't.

Exactly. Because he never existed. Much like the THOUSANDS of other gods who have had books written about and in praise of them.

Each book is one person's version of the word of God. .

And they all claim that the other person's book is wrong, and in most cases killing them to prove it is understandable, or even completely acceptable and encouraged. Nice.

The beauty of true theology is that we can study and learn from each and EVOLVE!
.

It is much easier to study them all, learn, and evolve when you embrace that they are all just early man's attempt to explain things he didn't understand at the time.

We know better now. Or at the very least, we should.
