The stage musical and movie Bye, Bye, Birdie is believed by many to have been based on Elvis Presley. That's probably mostly true. However, the name of the musical's fictional rock star is Conrad Birdie, derived from the non-fictional Conway Twitty. Before he went all country, Twitty was a rockabilly singer in the Elvis mode.

Being a Conway Twitty fan is my secret shame. Love the orange suit, shirt and tie and that rhinestone-encrusted guitar strap.
No shame in Conway's game. Hold that head up high.

All very true Kirk. Conway's big early hit was "It's Only Make Believe". He sounds very much like Elvis on that tune.
