Award thingy

I became aware, under threat of violence, that I had been the recipient of one of theses fancy blog awards. I've seen them on other folks' blogs, but this would be the first time I've been tagged with one.

Many humble thanks to Utah Savage for throwing it my way!

I'm supposed to toss it on to seven more folks.....which seems like work, but here goes..

1. Attentive Aphorist
2. After The Bridge
3. Justinespired
4. Monkey Muck
5. Leisha's Random thoughts and Ponderings
6. Unicorn Tea Party
7. The Corporate Cog

Whew.

Now I am instructed by Frau Savage to list ten "honest" things about myself. More work.

1. I work in social services, helping those in need, and those just looking for a handout.
2. I own a cat named Banjo.
3. I have never been married.
4. I am an atheist.
5. I graduated from a Catholic college (how's that for irony).
6. I watch ALLOT of movies.
7. I spend way too much time on the internets.
8. I love a good debate.
9. I've wrecked every can I've ever owned except for the current one.
10. I read about a book a week give or take.

Ok....I think that just about does it. If I tagged you with this illustrious award, and you are reading this.....here are the instructions according to Frau Savage....

These are the rules:
Then the instructions for the 'chosen ones' ;
1.You must brag about the award
2.You must include the name of the blogger who bestowed the award on you and link back to the blogger
3.You must choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. 4.Show their names and links and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog.
5.List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself.
Then pass it on with the instructions!

Just plain excellent....

Fantastic post today at the blog Dwindling in Unbelief entitled "Why Christian Marriage is wrong".

Peferectly times considering the debate going on here.

He lays out a classic "family value" and then desconstructs the idea using, what else, the Bible.

For example...

The Bible says that Christians should not marry. God doesn't want Christians to marry. We shouldn't either.
Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. 1 Corinthians 7:27
For I would that all men were even as I myself.... I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. 1 Corinthians 7:7-9

It is a great list. Give it a look see.

More fun in bed...

Stuff of nightmares...

Adjustments

I made a couple of minor adjustments to the blah-g over the weekend.

I took comment moderation off. I had put it on late last year when I got a lovely comment wishing that I was dead. Yeah...me! Can you imagine!?

I also switched commenting to it's own window because I like it better that way. Deal.

Play nice.

Teabagging.....or something.

Matt at the great local blog Ohio River Life gets kudos for his fantastic short take on the (ahem) Teabagging parties that took place yesterday....

Good stuff Matt !

According to the newspaper, the content of the speeches was standard fare. The Republicans continue to reel over their loss of the White House and the wholesale rejection of their principles by the American electorate.

The job now is to obscure the fact that their last president, George W. Bush, led the most successful attack on the Constitution in memory, left the nation’s economy in shambles, and dragged the nation into failed, meaningless wars.

With virtually no credibility left, Republicans are desperate to deflect. They feel they must regroup and rely on what they do best, which is: wrap themselves up in the flag, blame someone else for their own failures, and let us know how much they love Jesus and guns.

Just saw this on the always-in-hysterics Drudge Report....

PAPER: French president portrays Obama as weak and meek...

Tell that to the Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Penguins begin their quest for Lord Stanley's Cup tonight against the hated Philadelphia Flyers.

GO PENS !!!

Greed

Jackass quote of the week . . .

Texas State Rep. Betty Brown (R) told [Organization of Chinese Americans representative Ramey] Ko: “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?” “Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?”

Classy Betty.....real classy.

Afghanistan

From Austin Cline's Atheism Blog . . .

Muslim Afghanistan Legalizes Rape, Pedophilia, Enslavement of Women

Just because the Taliban isn't in power in Afghanistan doesn't mean that the country isn't being run by Muslims who whole-heartedly agree with the worst aspects of Islam's treatment of women. In a move that might shock even the most misogynistic Christians, Afghanistan's parliament passed a law which basically legalizes rape, enslavement of women, and pedophilia — all in the name of male control of women.

Article 132 requires women to obey their husband's sexual demands and stipulates that a man can expect to have sex with his wife at least "once every four nights" when travelling, unless they are ill. The law also gives men preferential inheritance rights, easier access to divorce, and priority in court.

Fail

Reasons

From the blog Think4Yourself

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is "Wrong"

1. Being gay is not natural. Yeah, because Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, what, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4.Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans

Obama is a badass
