Brain Washing ( Jesus Camp ''Highlights'' )

Just as chilling as the video of the poor young Muslim child repeating all the rules of the Qur'an.

Jesus Camp was one of the most unintentionally hysterical movies I've ever seen in my entire life. I was floored with laughter. I know the film isn't an outright comedy, but I found so much of it pricelessly funny. The entire section of the kids speaking in tongues just KILLS ME.

That woman is one sick individual. Brings back the memories of Jim Jones, David Koresh and past cult leaders. But my heart breaks the most for these children. they are preying on their innocence and naivete. Shame. As for "speaking in tongues" - what a crock of shit!

Back again...I get so upset over these "cults." My biological family which I met late in life...are all pentecostals and evangelicals. Every other word out of their mouths is "pray" "God" "his spirit." They cannot accept my non-beliefs at all and makes for some interesting get-togethers. (Which I avoid at all cost.) Don't even get me started on how they break out in Gospel music - in my home no less.

I couldn't finish watching this video. It made me sick to my stomach... might as well have been a video of outright physical child abuse.

This isn't my church or my "style" of worship, but I wonder if you think I abuse my children by leading them in morning prayers, evening prayers, taking them to Mass and Confession, saying the Rosary occasionally, and praying spontaneously when we hear of someone else's tragedy or when ambulance passes us on its way to the hospital, etc.

Is sharing your faith and passing on what you believe is true to your children child abuse? I'm just curious.

Cults, of course, are harmful for many reasons, especially because they are centered on control of people through fear, and maybe this is your concern here.

But praying in tongues is a real phenomenon (which I experienced once), but it certainly can be faked and it's ridiculous to try to "teach" anyone how to do it because it's not a skill.

Is sharing your faith and passing on what you believe is true to your children child abuse? No more than bringing up a child to know the facts. Facts like the mythology of religion. The truth about the "Bible". The existence of thousands of "one true religions".

Raising a child to believe what YOU believe is to be expected. It is the MAIN reason that religion keeps marching on after all this time.

The question the video brings up (and the Muslim one last month), is to what EXTREME do you instill those beliefs to your child? To what end?

As an Atheist, I am extremely encouraged by the Internet and the free flow of information. Yes, children will be brought up with the mostly goofy spiritual beliefs of their parents......but more and more people are finding that the truth is easily found.

In the last 20 years or so, the world has gotten much smaller. We are able to see many religions for what they really are. Clubs with membership dues.

You don't need it to lead an extremely happy, moral, and fulfilling life......and you never did.
