I had a male cat for five years or so, who was kept in and hated his life. He would howl at the french doors whenever anyone went outside. He sneaked out enough times so that once he got hit by a small pick-up and survived. To the tune of a grand in vet bills, that is. Sigh. I had to give him away when I moved and he luckily went to a place where there are acres and acres to roam in. He died two years later from eating something poisonous but his last years were his happiest.
