Bullshit Quote of the Week

The idea of God is treated as fact today. A lot of people see God as a discrete personality; God is a creator in the same way as you or I create something. In the 17th century in the West and during the Enlightenment, scientists and philosophers such as Isaac Newton and René Descartes believed that they could prove God's existence scientifically. They said science was the best path to all truth. The other ways of coming to truth, such as art or mysticism or ritual, were downplayed. God became a fact, pure and simple. Theologians like St. Thomas Aquinas have said that God doesn't exist like you or me or this chair. They said you couldn't say God exists because exist is too limited a word. - Karen Armstrong

Could you imagine if Science used phrases like "you can't say DNA exits, because exist is too limited a word"?

If there was ever a phrase that so obviously shows the inane meaningless blabber that is religion, it's that bullshit explanation that Armstrong digs out of the moronic Aquinas files.

Remember....you aren't reading this blog. It exists, but you don't understand the word exist. Or the word Blog.

it reminds me of something i hear people say a lot...when they say God created the universe, i ask "well how do you know that?" and their response is always "SOMEONE had to do it!" and i say something like "well, following that logic, who created god then?"
that's usually followed by some stammering and then "he just IS that's all"

i like what Ayn Rand said in her book on Objectivist Epistemology:
"Existence exists, it can not be "proven", but it is the thing that ALL other proofs must be measured against.

i was having a discussion a while back with my at the time g/f's late teens daughter and she said "God gave us reason" and my reply was to the tune of "interesting but, IF you apply reason to the concept of god, i mean honestly apply it with hard logic and weigh it against the facts of reality, you will not possibly be able to believe in his existence because the concept of god defies all reason, all logic and all reality."

more stammering followed, lol.

I love the sound of religious stammering in the morning. Smells like....victory.

Sometimes I've wondered what if there really is a god like some claim and then what if this god is a little kid playing with his/her toys. Some of the stuff they claim god has done sounds like something a little undisciplined kid would do. But then there is the "If god created all that we see, who created god or where did god come from???" If all things had to be created by some entity, then what created that entity??? You can't just have something pop out of nothing and start creating stuff.

Just finished reading "under the dome" by Stephen King....and this comment reminded me of that book big time.

.

And there lies the BIG difference between believers and atheists. We don't claim to KNOW how anything started.....we have theories, discussions, ideas, and ever changing (evolving) thoughts on the subject. Believers say they KNOW.
