I almost sent this to you when it broke, but I figured you'd find it on your own before too long. :)

People do enough horrible things in the name of religion every day to fill a book...or even a blog.:) But at the same time people also do many good, beautiful and wonderful things in the name of religion too.

My question for you is, why do you only focus on the bad things? If it were possible to tally ALL actions done in the name of religion, do you believe the bad would outweigh the good? Just curious.

It's odd that you ask me about focusing on the 'bad' on today of all days (9/11).

The simple answer is that the bad outweighs the good when those that believe their 'god' will reward them for the slaughter of those who believe in a different invisible friend.

We should know better by now.

I'll stop focusing on the bad when religion stops denying people equal rights, murdering innocent people in it's name, and making empty insane claims about things that they know are not true.

"Religion" is a word that encompasses such a wide range of practices and ideologies. You condemn the good with the bad when you denounce the whole thing. This is just intellectual laziness on your part. I expect a little more from a guy with a degree from such a prestigious university. ;-)

All of the good being done could be done without attributing it to some supernatural force.

The bad being done is done strictly in the name of and in the BELIEF of a 'god'.

Religion is completely unnecessry and it (as Mr. Hitchens has said) poisons everything.

Are you saying that if we made a pile of all the "bad things" done in the name of religion that it would be bigger than the pile of all the "bad things" done for other reasons, or no reason at all? I seriously doubt this, based on my personal experience as well as studies of criminal behavior.

I think you are more opposed to tenets of religions that do not adhere to the Golden Rule, "do to others what you would like to be done to you" than religion itself.

Otherwise you have to condemn all good things done in the name of religion, to be consistent.

Nope. I just have to codemn religion itself for being the absolute lie that it is.

I would say that the bad things done in the name of religion are more dangerous because of the "end times" mindset of the followers.

They 'know' their god is the right god, and all too frequently are willing to kill innocent folks to prove their point.
